Banking Cord Blood Could Save Your Child’s Health

Jul
No Comments   Posted by |  Category:Pregnancy

Cord blood banking is a relatively new technology that allows parents to store the cord blood of their newborn babies. The stored cord blood contains a source of stem cells, which can be used to help treat several blood diseases and bone marrow dysfunctions. The donor, a close family member and even a complete stranger would be able to benefit from a specific banked cord blood sample.

One of the biggest benefits of banking your child’s cord blood is that there is no harm posed to the donor or their mother. Bone marrow collection can be intrusive and painful to the donor, but cord blood banking does not require the donor to undergo any additional procedures in order for their unit to be collected.

Instead, the doctors clamp and cut the umbilical cord as they would in any normal childbirth. The unit is then placed into a secure bag and transferred to the storage facility.

Should you choose to store you cord blood with a private bank, the unit will be exclusively available for your own use at an additional cost. If you are donating your cord blood, there is no charge for collection or storage, but the sample becomes available to the first child that is a match for the unit. So, if your child falls ill, they may not have their own cord blood sample to treat their illness. This gives private banking some advantages over public banking, but it is up to parents to decide what best suits their needs.

7 Tips for a smooth pregnancy for expectant mothers to be

Apr

Pregnancy is an exciting time. While the mind is calculating the weeks until the arrival, the body is rapidly changing. ALong with body changes there are worries for soon to be moms like baby names down to which skin care creams prevent stretch marks! With those physical changes may bring some discomfort that makes a mere nine months of pregnancy feel like ninety-nine.

The following are seven tips for a (hopefully) smooth pregnancy:

1. Stay hydrated. The thought of adding more water to an already over-active bladder seems counter-productive, but drinking at LEAST sixty-four ounces of water over a day will be the best way to avoid swelling of the extremities and headaches. In order to stay hydrated, it is also better to avoid caffeine, carbonated drinks, and alcohol. Even diet drink, caffeine drinks are heavy in sodium. All of these beverages can cause dehydration which is taxing on the body.

2. Eat for ONE. It sounds like fun – the ability to eat at will, regardless of calories. Depending on the starting weight, there may not be a need to increase the amount of calories eaten per day. But this is not the time to start a diet, either. Eating five or six small meals that includes a protein and complex carbohydrate will keep the blood sugar stable, hunger at bay, and decrease any morning sickness.

3. Listen to the body. Growing a human being is hard work. It takes an extra amount of the mother’s daily energy needs to accomplish this miraculous task. When at all possible, rest. Strive to get between eight and nine solid hours of sleep at night.

4. Have sex. Sex releases stress reducing endorphins and serotonin. Not only will this make you feel better, but it can actually help relieve any pain that you may be experiencing. Unless the doctor has explicitly forbade it, sex is perfectly healthy (and for some people, more enjoyable!) during pregnancy.

5. Give into the craving. It is not known why women get cravings for particular foods during pregnancy. Doctors recommend finding the best food to curb the craving. For example, if you are craving something tart, try some citrus fruits: grapefruit, oranges, or lemons. If salt is all that you want, then cucumber, celery, or even bananas may do the trick without all the guilt.

6. Just say, “Ohmmmm…” Many studies have been done on the effectiveness of prenatal yoga during pregnancy. The low- impact exercise holds benefits mom both physically and mentally. Moms that continued yoga throughout the pregnancy were more likely to have a smoother delivery.

7. Let go of the horror. Once a woman announces she is pregnant, horror stories start flowing in. Keep in mind that every pregnancy is different, even in the same woman. If pregnancy were truly so horrible, no one have children ever again.

Enjoy this time. It is only nine months. Might as well make it smooth.

Preparing For A New Baby

Parenting is definitely not an easy thing to deal with. Part of the task is preparing for the coming of a new baby. An addition to the family is definitely an exciting thing not only for parents but for older children as well if you have any. However, for first time parents the excitement of waiting for the new baby is definitely more. Hence, expectant mothers need to prepare a lot of important things in anticipation of the new born. Here are some essential things expectant mothers need to take note of while waiting for baby:

• Healthy pregnancy – For first time moms, the preparation should begin right in the first trimester of pregnancy. Since you still have not much idea about the whole pregnancy thing, it is best to have your regular check to ensure having a healthy pregnancy. Healthy pregnancy means you should be physically fit for bearing the unborn to ensure that fetus inside your womb is also getting the needed nutrients for its healthy growth.
• Prepare the household environment – This is pretty important especially if you are a first time mom. Most single women love to have pets as their companion in the house, so once you found out that you are going to have your baby soon pets should be out of the way. This is to ensure you are not having trouble with allergies that the new born might potentially get from household pets.
• Plan for the baby’s daily care – If you are not a first time mom, this is of course just a piece of cake. However, for the first timers it is certainly a big toll. There are many things you need to learn pertinent with the daily care of the new born. You must consider taking parenting lessons and pregnancy advices from other experienced parents. Parenting books can also help you deal with the tasks of caring for the new baby. Whenever, you are in doubt simply trust the “mother’s instinct” in dealing with the task and for sure everything will turn out just fine.
• Establish as strong support group – Whether you are a single mom or not, there really is a need for a real strong support group. You family and friends count a lot on this. They are those whom you can rely on when you badly need some help relative on how to be ready for a new born.

Start Your Parenting Before

Mar

If you are going to start parents you perhaps think that your parenting will only starts after baby is born? But that’s not so and various current researches prove otherwise. Therefore from the moment you know you are pregnant it’s worth to start to stimulate and communicate with your baby. As far as researches found the time between conception and baby’s birth is very important for the basic architecture of the brain and build the foundations for his future potential.

According to Dr Thomas R. Verny, “Every minute, there are new brain cells being formed in the unborn child. And as the new brain cells are being formed, pathways or circuits are being formed along the lines that help assist communication for whatever the child the needs. For example, the child will obviously need to breathe, the child will need to move when he is born, the eyelids will need to open and close; so all these organs and all the nervous tissue that supply these organs has to start developing long before birth.

It’s the same thing with the brain circuits. The more you stimulate a child’s skin, or the more you stimulate its auditory nerves (hearing) the more those pathways will develop and become stronger so that when the child is born, he or she is better prepared for the world.”
You see? Actually it sounds fantastically just as a new life’s birth is still the divine mystery nobody can read.

There are tips allowing you to shape your child’s future today and I’m sure you know what I mean exactly, but however I’d like to repeat once again – converse with an unborn baby, talk to him (or her) like he or she is already present with you, sing him songs or whatever you want, think about baby, using daily experiences to prepare your baby for life after birth. Don’t worry about nothing; try to keep yourself out of stress or under control! The last sentence should become an everyday life gold rule just for everyone.

Pregnancy is a big happiness.

Sep
No Comments   Posted by |  Category:Pregnancy

I remember when I had first one I was so happy that one could hardly to find the right words to express all my feelings. We are continued in our kids. We start new life with first symptoms of the pregnancy and it is truth. What is your first pregnancy symptom? It could be morning sickness, sudden urges to pee a lot, you get hungry, or you get nauseas a lot, mood swings, bigger belly. And as a rule you miss your period. If so you have to get a pregnancy test immediately. After getting positive pregnancy test our emotional responding does change as pregnancy advances. We must be ready to become with total selflessness because that’s what a new baby will require and to talk to our doctor or nurse if we have any questions about.

However, it is very unlikely that this will happen. Most of them go into labour two weeks either of their delivery date. A small number of babies are born premature and some are overdue which means labour needs to be started off by your doctors. A ‘show’ as labour is about to begin is mucus leaves the vagina because the plug at the neck of the womb comes away ready for the birth, the mucus is usually a pinky color. In this case it’s important to phone your doctor or hospital for medical advice. After that your waters can break at any time. Some women’s waters break before labour. Other women’s waters don’t break until labour is well under way. Anyway if you see that or have another pregnancy symptom discharge you have to contact your doctor or hospital, as labour is about to begin. By the way there are a number of very useful medical resources in internet that could help you to find right answer to any your question, to learn a lot of important things: from to have or not to have sex while you are expectant mother till how to pick up best name for your baby.
Be safe and happy in your pregnancy!
